Finding out first

A one-star review left on a Friday night can sit unanswered all weekend. A forum thread about your business can pick up replies for weeks before anyone at your company sees it. Monitoring is simply making sure someone notices, quickly, and knows what to do next.

What we watch

  • Review sites: Google, Yelp, Facebook, Better Business Bureau and the sites specific to your industry.
  • Search results for your name: what shows up on the first page when someone searches your business name, and whether it changes.
  • Social media, news and forums: public mentions of your business name, owners' names if you want, and key products.
  • Your listings: name, address, phone and hours across the main directories, so customers don't call an old number.

What you get

  • Same-day alerts for ratings of 1 or 2 stars, safety or legal complaints, and anything that looks like a coordinated attack (a burst of reviews from accounts with no history, for example).
  • A monthly one-page summary: new reviews by site, average rating, how fast replies went out, notable mentions, and how your rating and review count compare with a few competitors you name.
  • Plain recommendations. If the same complaint keeps showing up, that's useful information about your business, and we'll say so.

Monitoring only covers public content. We don't access private groups, scrape personal accounts, or try to identify anonymous reviewers.

Questions

Can't I just use Google Alerts?

For a free start, yes, and we'd suggest you set it up today. It misses most reviews and social posts, though, and it doesn't tell you what to do. We use monitoring tools plus a person who reads what comes in.

Do you monitor competitors?

Only their public ratings and review counts, for comparison in your report. We never post on or about a competitor's listings, which Google's policy prohibits anyway.
